The Sarasota Millionaires came away with their first win 24 - 15 in their 2014 season opener this past Saturday in Fort Myers, Florida against a talented Panthers team. Not only is it important to start the season off with a win but a division win makes it a little sweeter. The Millionaires got off to a slow start in the first half but settled down after defensive coordinator Thad Starling laid down the law and demanded that the guys start playing Millionaires football. In the second half and they did just that. The defense played lights out in the second half lead by first year linebacker Alan Barnett who had ten tackles and six sacks in the game. The great defensive play helped the offense calm down as running back Patrick "Choo Choo" Brown rushed for two touchdowns, followed by a touchdown pass to Willie Phelps from quarterback Tarun Weatherby. "This is one of the youngest teams I've ever coached. We have a lot of things we still need to work on; on the offensive side of the ball. As we still continue to work and recruit we will be fine" said head coach and former NFL star Ernest Givins Jr.

The Millionaires will have their home opener this Sunday January 26th, in downtown Sarasota as they take on the Daytona Beach Wildcats at Sarasota High School 1000 S. School Ave. - Sarasota. Kickoff will be at 3pm and general admission is $7.00. The Millionaires will be playing a Sunday game for the first time in their ten year history. "We're excited as a program to be hosting a game on a Sunday, it's different. Now that the youth leagues, high school and college football games are over. The NFL is also winding down and we're hoping the community will take advantage of the opportunity to come out on a Sunday afternoon in downtown Sarasota and watch some live football with all the NFL rules" said co owner Bethsaida Williams.

The Sarasota Millionaires have been in full swing of practices, with the season set to begin January 18th, 2014. The team has been practicing every Tuesdays and Thursday evenings from 7:30-9:30pm , at The Robert Taylor Complex - Sarasota. The coaches have been pretty impressed with all the new talent that has come out this season. "This will be one of the youngest teams I will be coaching since I started with the Millionaires" said Head Coach Ernest Givins. "We are looking pretty solid on both sides of the ball. We are back in the FFA this year and know the competion the league has in store. With that being said we must prepare to play ALL four quarters of the game".

The veterans on the team are looking forward to playing against some of the toughest teams they have gone up against since being a part of the Millionaires. "The standards that are held in the FFA are what sets the league apart from the others. Owners have a "say" in any changes of rules, new teams joining, etc. Not a one person show "per say" said co-owner Bethsaida Williams.

The Millionares first game will be on the road but will return home the following week. Continue to check back for any latest news and updates before kick off January 18th!
